Katie Wilson

PhD Candidate

Katie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons - I) with a double major in Psychology in 1999. Her honours thesis re-examined the bystander effect and attempted to develop a model of individual decision making in relation to bystanders in an emergency situation. She then moved to the University of Melbourne for a year to start a PhD in the field of organisational decision making. After a change of heart, she then moved back to Queensland where she took up a senior research assistant position in the School of Psychology. This position was primarily concerned with the effects of organisational mergers on social identities.

Having re-thought and re-grouped, she re-commenced her PhD, this time in the field of ethical decision making. Her PhD research is concerned with developing a measure of moral intensity, and developing and testing a model of ethical decision making in the field of medical ethics. Paralleling (some might say consuming) these research interests are the desire to see Australia win the World Cup in Germany in 2006, the instinct for twitching, bushwalking, the obsession with cycling around France to follow le Tour de France and the desire to start a statistical consulting business!

Research Interests

  • Models of ethical decision making
  • Business ethics
  • Psychological theories of morality
  • Social cognition and empathy research
  • Quantitative statistical methods
  • Philosophical theories of ethics and philosophy in general
