Angela Wallace

Education Officer and Masters student

On completion of secondary school in 1992, Angela plunged head first into science when selected for a CSIRO scholarship in biochemistry and microbiology with the Division of Tropical Animal Production. In conjunction with this full-time position, Angela undertook a Bachelor of Applied Science in biochemistry and microbiology part-time at the Queensland University of Technology. At the end of the scholarship, Angela secured a position with the CSIRO Division of Food Science and Technology in the area of collagen stability and utilisation and continued her studies. With an interest molecular biology and genetics, Angela transferred to the Biotechnology stream at QUT and took a position with CSIRO’s Molecular Animal Genetics Centre. After a short break to pursue other interests, Angela returned to science when appointed as the Education Officer for the Cooperative Research Centre for Discovery of Genes for Common Human Diseases (Gene CRC) in the Education and Ethics Programme. This position was initially based at the Queensland Clinical Genetics Service before moving to the Institute for Molecular Bioscience at The University of Queensland, where the position was based in the Marketing and Communications Unit. Angela joined the Office of Public Policy and Ethics in June 2002 with a half-time appointment, retaining the connection to the Gene CRC.

Currently, Angela is undertaking a Masters of Public Health through The University of Queensland and the Queensland Centre for Public Health.
