Bree Ryan

Research Assistant

Bree began her university studies in 1999 when she undertook a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Griffith University. Bree became interested in clinical genetics and so upon completion of the Bachelor degree, she pursued the Masters of Science in Genetic Counselling, and subsequently completed an honours project on the subject of genetic counselling for women with breast cancer in 2003.

Bree then worked as a casual research assistant on the Genetic Discrimination Project for the school of social work and applied human sciences, in addition to the Coping with Predictive Genetic Testing project for the school of Psychology. She joined the OPPE team in June 2004, and is currently working on a project that is investigating the public perceptions of the use genetic technology in the prevention and treatment of cancer, whilst continuing to work for the school of psychology, one day a week.


Research Interests

Predictive genetic testing, psychosocial aspects of genetic or inherited illness, the social, legal and ethical implications of genetic technologies and genetic counselling, public understandings of genetics and science.
