UQ October Marketing Campaigns

The following student recruitment marketing activity is taking place this month.

Scholarships
Throughout October, UQ is running a campaign to encourage high-achieving prospective students to apply for academic, sporting and UQ Link scholarships. The campaign is being featured across radio, press and social media and includes a direct mail out and follow-up email to principals, guidance officers and year 12 coordinators from Queensland’s 438 secondary schools. The campaign also includes a direct email to current Year 12 students who have expressed interest in commencing their studies at UQ next year.

QTAC Direct Mail
In late October, UQ will complete a direct mail-out to QTAC applicants who have chosen UQ as their first or second preference. The piece will be mailed to nearly 16,000 applicants and will be personalised with the applicant’s first name and a unique URL for them to click through and watch their very own "Day in the Life" video. The video is also personalised with their first name appearing on a coffee being handed to them, a sample itinerary, and on a lecture screen wishing them good luck and thanking them for choosing UQ as one of their top QTAC preferences.

For those QTAC applicants who have listed UQ as their third preference, they will be sent an email with the same information and unique link for them to watch their video. This is a very new concept for UQ and we are pretty excited to see how the market responds. Click here to watch a test video.

If you have any questions about any of UQ’s campaigns please contact Linda Pike ex. 63165.

Call for ChangeMakers story ideas

Following the successful launch of the first issue of ChangeMakers magazine in July, work has commenced on the next edition, due to be printed in February.

OMC is seeking story ideas from the wider Marketing and Communications network across UQ.

ChangeMakers is an outward-facing magazine for business, government, industry and other partners who value innovation and its transformative effects on society.

The magazine reinforces the “Create Change” message by showcasing examples of the UQ community seeing opportunities to change the world for the better. To view the current issue, click here

If you have a story you think would be suitable for inclusion in future editions of ChangeMakers, or would like to discuss what sort of content would be suitable, contact the Corporate Publications team on ext. 67886.

Teaching and Learning Week

UQ Teaching and Learning Week will be held from Monday 2–Friday 6 November. Teaching and Learning Week is an opportunity for the UQ community to celebrate and share innovative and excellent teaching and learning practices that engage and inspire students.

There are a number of seminars and events being held throughout the week, and the full schedule can be found here

OMC has created web banners and digital screens to promote Teaching and Learning Week in general, as well as specific events. There are digital screens currently available on Appspace in the "OMC Shared Content" folder. If your area doesn't use Appspace, or you require a customised web banner or digital screen, email publications@uq.edu.au

UQ and Surf Life Saving Queensland partnership

A new formal partnership between UQ and Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) was announced last week at a pop-up beach on the Forgan Smith lawns.

The partnership encompasses a range of areas including surf safety education and awareness and best practices in lifesaving, and will create opportunities for future collaborative research.

To discuss potential research ideas or projects, contact Bill Brassington at SLSQ on 3846 8043.

UQ’s sponsorship will directly support SLSQ’s award-winning On The Same Wave multicultural program which educates international tourists, students and migrants about surf safety. This support will benefit the UQ community, as last year more than 11,000 international students chose to study at UQ.

If you are interested in promoting this new partnership in your area, OMC can arrange web banners and digital signage. To obtain promotional assets, email publications@uq.edu.au with your requirements.

“Don’t be afraid to get creative and experiment with your marketing.” Mike Volpe, CMO at Hubspot.
