M&C Network Conference - thank you!
Thanks to everyone who attended the second annual Conference for the Marketing and Communications Network at UQ. For many staff it was their first opportunity to hear from our new Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Høj, who shared his views on marketing and communications directions for UQ.
Professor Høj left no one in any doubt about the importance he places on working collaboratively, being on the same page and being more ‘agile’ in our communications. Attendees were then treated to a packed day of internal and external speakers.
The draft OMC Work Plan for 2013, which was launched at the Conference, can be accessed here. The Work Plan, “Bringing the UQ Advantage to Life”, provides an overview of the key activities, deliverables and timings of work being undertaken by OMC next year. As so much of our work is delivered in partnership with members of the Network, the plan is a must-read to ensure good planning and coordination of our activities and resources next year.
We’d like your feedback on the Plan – send us an email, give us a call or drop by Level 7 of JD Story to share your ideas and suggestions.
We’d also like feedback from the Network on the Conference. An evaluation form can be accessed here.
Thanks again to everyone who took the time to attend the Conference.

Tips for typing accented characters
Following the arrival of the new Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Høj last month, we have some helpful tips on how to write the ‘ø’ in Høj.
The correct pronunciation of Professor Høj's last name is 'hoy', such as 'soy'. For ways to type the accented character ,ø, ITS has provided us with the following instructions:
· For Macs, pressing Option/Alt + O produces an ø (with Shift producing a capital Ø)
· In Microsoft Office programs, Ctrl + / then o produces an ø
· Again for Office, you can set up an autocorrect entry so that typing "Hoj" gets autocorrected to "Høj"
· For html, use "ø"

Media release style and guidelines
Everyone in the Network would have recently received an email about media release style and process.
As you will be aware, there are standards, style and approval requirements around the stories we post to UQ News Online and send to the media. Adhering to a consistent style helps UQ present a professional image to the community which is part of enhancing our reputational standing. To make it easier for you to comply with these standards, we have been developing resources that outline requirements more clearly.
The UQ Style Guide is available in searchable PDF.
