Teaching and Learning Award videos

As part of Teaching and Learning Week 2015, short videos of the UQ Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Learning winners were produced by OMC. These videos are now online, and videos of the finalists are also in production.

We encourage you to share these inspiring videos widely with any relevant networks. If you require banners, images of the winners, links to social media posts or any other information, please contact publications@uq.edu.au.

UQ Art Museum self-portrait prize

Victorian artist Fiona McMonagle has been awarded the 2015 National Self-Portrait Prize (NSPP) for her video animation One hundred days at 7pm 2015 (pictured above). This year's prize was judged by QAGOMA’s Jason Smith.

The NSPP exhibition runs until Sunday 13 March 2016. Visitors are invited to photograph the exhibition and share their experiences on social media. You can also tag @UQArtMuseum on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and using the following hashtags: #NSPP2015 and #UQArtMuseum.

There are short films about the artists available to view and share on the UQ Art Museum's Vimeo page. For more information contact Sebastian Moody ext: 68760.

Graduation Event Hosts – expressions of interest

Protocol is welcoming expressions of interest to be an Event Host at the upcoming December 2015 UQ Graduation Ceremonies. The role of the Event Host is best suited to those who enjoy public speaking. It involves welcoming guests to the ceremony and introducing the graduates and academic procession.

Event Hosts are required to wear full academic dress, which we will organise on your behalf. You must have the written support of your supervisor or manager to participate in work time, and/or to claim flex for participation outside of standard hours. Event Hosts are encouraged to nominate for ceremonies of their relevant Faculty or School, however all nominations are welcomed regardless of affiliation.

Email Sarah Armour by COB this Monday 23 November with your availability and preferred ceremonies. Click here for December 2015 ceremony dates and times.

The Network networking lunch

To celebrate the festive season, and to give you a chance to catch up with your Network colleagues, OMC invites you to lunch at The Lakeside Cafe on Tuesday 1 December at 12.30pm.

Please RSVP here by Thursday 26 November. You can order and pay for your lunch on arrival.

If there is strong interest we will look to schedule quarterly network lunches in 2016.

December graduation story search

OMC is again calling for newsworthy graduation stories, this time for the December graduating cohort. The aim is to run several stories throughout graduation week, but the earlier you submit your ideas, the earlier they can be factored into our calendar and be considered for a UQ News TV clip.

Great stories could include family achievements, a graduate overcoming challenging odds or graduates who are already creating change in the world. Basically, if it’s of interest to a wider audience, it could work, so let us know and we’ll help you get the word out.

Please send all suggestions or questions before Friday 4 December to Janelle Kirkland ext: 60561.

“Our job is to connect to people, to interact with them in a way that leaves them better than we found them, more able to get where they’d like to go.” Seth Godin, author of Linchpin.
