Do you know of a great graduations story?

OMC's Communications team is currently planning media activity for July Graduations. We would like to hear from members of The Network who have newsworthy story ideas regarding the latest cohort of UQ graduates.

We are interested in story ideas covering (but not limited to) the following angles:

  • High achieving graduates at a national or international level
  • A student with an inspirational tale
  • A celebrity
  • Family members graduating together
  • Graduates seeking a different or interesting career path.

Selected stories will be uploaded onto UQ News Online and distributed to targeted media outlets. This is an excellent opportunity to promote the important achievements of graduating UQ students and highlight your Faculty, School or Institute.

Please send suggestions, contact details and/or pre-drafted articles to Kate Bishop or communications@uq.edu.au for consideration.

Changes to filming request procedures

We’ve made it easier and quicker for you to organise external filming approvals at UQ campuses by streamlining the process and reducing the number of forms to fill out.

If you have any requests to film on campus, forward these to Carolyn Varley, Corporate Relations Manager, OMC. Relevant approvals and documentation will then be organised for the filming to take place.

Non-controversial news, current affairs and documentary requests can be given verbal approval at relatively short notice and the Comms team already has current Public Liability Insurance Certificates on file for many major media outlets.

For more information on filming on campus please click here or contact Carolyn on 3365 1120 or c.varley@uq.edu.au

Careers that Shape the World wrap-up

Thanks to members of The Network who helped deliver a successful Careers that Shape the World event, which was held on Wednesday 23 April at the St Lucia campus. The event attracted 1315 high school students from 77 schools (41 per cent from Year 11 and 59 per cent from Year 12). Students were able to select from a range of career-focused information sessions presented by Faculty staff, students and industry partners.

High schools from Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Logan, Toowoomba and surrounding areas were represented, including schools involved in the UQ Young Achievers program and Widening Tertiary Participation program.

If you have any questions about this year’s event, contact Jessica Hannant on ext. 51535.
