UQ to launch new brand campaign

Expect change at UQ – the University has been working with advertising agency Clemenger BBDO to develop a new brand strategy and positioning for the University.

The project centres around the concept of creating change – empowering students and providing them with the skills to make change in their world.

The brand strategy will be delivered across a number of elements, including advertising, a new UQ homepage and campaign microsite, the launch of a new UQ publication, and the creation of a suite of digital assets. The University’s Corporate ID guidelines will also be revised later in the year to reflect the new brand strategy.

There will be a strong focus on future students in the initial phases of the campaign, with the launch of a new website and contact centre designed to help students explore their options at UQ.

The new brand strategy is intended to provide a compelling and unifying platform from which all of the University’s marketing and communications can be driven.

The campaign will launch via television advertising on Sunday 12 July, ahead of the University’s Open Day events in August. Other elements of the project will roll out progressively throughout the year.

Further communications on some of these key elements will be distributed to the Network and university community as the project unfolds.

A new way to submit media releases

There’s a simplified media release coversheet in town, and a new way to submit your draft releases to OMC.

These resources have been updated on the online Guide to UQ Media Releases, and include:

  • A new compulsory coversheet that is easier to complete
  • A revised Standard Operating Procedure, featuring a new submission process.

The submission process has been updated because OMC now uses Request Tracker (RT) to log and track jobs from around the University. With numerous jobs on the go and many people involved in versions and approvals, this has proven effective at monitoring real-time job status.

To submit a release through the RT system simply email commsinquiries@uq.edu.au to ensure the release is logged in the system. You will receive a job number.

Please ensure you follow OMC file name conventions in the email subject line. e.g. ‘HABS water 150409’. This helps with recording and tracking emails relating to each job.

We realise it takes time to learn a new system, so please contact OMC Communications on ext. 60561 if you have any questions.

UQ Open Day - Melbourne

On Wednesday 27 May, UQ International hosted a UQ Open Day at the Melbourne Town Hall, supported by faculty staff and the Office of Prospective Students and Student Equity.

Around 70 international and domestic prospective students attended, and had the opportunity to receive academic advice, attend seminars, speak with University admissions staff and chat with two current UQ international students.

Melbourne was chosen for the event as it has the largest cohort of international high school students in Australia and most of these students will stay on in Australia for university study.

While in Melbourne, UQ International and faculty staff also hosted a school counsellor information session and agent training session.
