UQ's 2014 advertising campaign

UQ’s 2014 advertising campaign officially kicked off on Sunday 8 June. This year we continue the theme of "Your UQ. Your Advantage", and introduce a range of new stories from across the University to emphasise our strengths. You can explore the stories on our redeveloped campaign microsite, youruq.com.

The campaign will be featured across TV, radio, outdoor, online, press and cinema advertising. Videos and other content will also be shared on the UQ Facebook page. Feel free to share these posts via your office, faculty or school social media channels.

Visit the OMC website to view a summary of the 2014 brand campaign and resources, including screen savers, web banners and information on how you can implement the campaign style and templates. The Marketing team welcomes story ideas for future campaign material. If you would like to make a suggestion, or if you have any questions, please email us at marketing@uq.edu.au.


New Twitter account for UQ

The OMC Communications team has been working to increase engagement via Twitter. Part of the overhaul has included changing the Twitter handle from @uqnewsonline to @UQ_News. Since the new handle was launched about three weeks ago, we’ve seen an increase of 200 followers and improved engagement.

We would appreciate it if you could send your Twitter handles to us at communications@uq.edu.au. This will help us to showcase a broad range of UQ projects, tag you in tweets that are relevant to your area, and re-tweet some of your content to increase its readership.

We’d also love to hear when academics are involved in media so that we can tweet about their appearances. For TV and radio appearances, this is most effective if we can tweet before they go to air, but we can also tweet an appearance up to 24 hours afterwards. If you know of an academic appearing in the media, let us know at communications@uq.edu.au.


What is the UQ Advantage?

The UQ Advantage sets UQ apart and forms a key platform for our marketing and communications. OMC Marketing Manager Lindy White held a presentation for Faculty Marketing Managers in May to demonstrate how OMC applies the UQ Advantage to its various activities. These activities include advertising campaigns, events, social media, corporate publications, digital content, news releases and corporate identity.

The presentation covered the key components that make up the UQ Advantage, and how these components vary in importance depending on the target audience.  A copy of the presentation is available here. New UQ Corporate Video now available

The UQ Corporate Video has been updated for 2014 and is now available for use.  Aimed at a variety of internal and external audiences, the video provides an engaging visual overview of the University and includes information on our rankings, memberships, and research and teaching achievements. New footage from UQ’s 2014 TV commercial has been incorporated.

We encourage staff members to use the corporate video in presentations or on websites. If your area currently uses the corporate video for any purpose, please use the new version. Download the video directly from Vimeo in MP4 format, embed from Vimeo or YouTube, or contact the Marketing team for a copy of the video file.

UQ International alumni video competition

UQ International is running a video competition, "My UQ Advantage". International alumni can submit short videos about what they studied at UQ and how their UQ experience helped their careers. The winner will receive a return trip to Brisbane. UQ staff are encouraged to promote the competition to international alumni and through their relevant communication channels. For more information, click here.
 

UQ Undergraduate Research Conference (URC)

Applications are now open for undergraduate and honours students to present their research at the 2014 URC hosted by the UQ Advantage Office. The conference will be held on Tuesday 16–Wednesday 17 September. The multidisciplinary conference is a forum for students to showcase their research through oral, poster or Three Minute Thesis (3MT) presentations.

The Student Engagement team would appreciate it if staff could help promote the conference to relevant students through their communication channels. Please refer to the website for further information, or contact Student Engagement at advantage@uq.edu.au.  
              

UQ Drupal transition presentation

Peter Snowball, Dee McGrath and Richard Rerrie from ITS presented the latest information on UQ's CMS transition to Drupal at the OMC Network Forum on Wednesday 4 June. The presentation is available to view online. Staff are also encouraged to register on the new myUQ website for a chance to win an iPad mini.
