UQ's new content management system

The University has embarked on a project to replace its website content management system with a more modern and flexible system. After a selection process conducted in 2012, Drupal was chosen to be trialled. A small number of specifically selected UQ pilot sites are being built in Drupal to evaluate the platform against identified University requirements. The first pilot website, Orientation, went live in January this year.

The rest of this year will be spent building the Scholarships, UQ News, UQ Events and My Advisor websites in Drupal and configuring the new CMS for roll-out. OMC and ITS are currently training their teams to support Drupal and defining a roadmap for transition. All project websites are scheduled for completion by January 2014 with a roll-out of other University websites to follow as the year progresses.

To find out more about the project, visit the project website or contact Project Manager, Chris Parker (ITS).

Boost media pick-up with targeted distribution

The communications team within OMC is building a set of targeted media distribution lists in Meltwater, our media release distribution system.

Several institutes, schools and faculties have worked with OMC to develop specific lists for their purposes, targeting media outlets and journalists specialising in various fields.

Targeted distribution provides a more strategic approach, and helps improve pick-up of your material.

Network staff are welcome to spend time in the OMC office to work with the Communications team on building individual targeted lists.

Take advantage of our hot-desking opportunities at the same time, and spend a day with us to build relationships and discuss ways we can enhance each other’s work.

Contact Abbie De Sousa (ext. 53367) for more information or to set a time for a hot-desk day or media list session.

Open Day 2013

Open Day 2013

UQ Open Days will be held at St Lucia on 4 August, Ipswich on 7 August and Gatton on 18 August.

There is a range of resources for UQ Marketing and Communications staff across all faculties to use when promoting Open Day. A summary of this year’s campaign can be found on the OMC website.

Potential students and parents can be directed to the UQ Open Day microsite at youruq.com/openday where they can download an Open Day program, view videos about Open Day and find out more about each event.

The Open Day online planner is also available on the microsite. The online planner allows students to create their own schedule for Open Day, which can then be printed or saved within the planner.

Introduced this year, the UQ Open Day app provides real-time information and helps visitors find their way around at the event. The app is available free from the App Store and Google Play.

There will be a number of posts on the UQ Facebook page in the lead up to Open Day and all faculties and departments are welcome to share these posts, videos and images on their Facebook pages.

If you would like to find out how you can help promote the event contact the OMC Marketing team at marketing@uq.edu.au.
