New UQ News website launched

Have you seen the new UQ News website?

The UQ News website has been transitioned to the Drupal CMS platform, allowing better connectivity between related articles, improved categorisation and search, targeted and automated distribution, and inclusion of more images, video and other content.

We can now make changes quickly as news breaks. All 9000-plus articles published throughout the history of UQ News online remain accessible.

If you haven't already, please take the time to explore the revamped site. We'd love to hear what you think at communications@uq.edu.au.

Thank you for all that you do for UQ – watch the video

The UQ Advancement team has spent the last weeks of 2013 putting together UQ’s first ever ‘thank you video’. A thank you message was sent to all 2013 donors on Thursday, and a slightly modified ‘general thank you’ version was distributed in the Friday eNews, which goes to the UQ alumni and community.

The video outlines how giving is making an impact at the University today and for future generations, and features some of UQ's greatest achievements – all made possible through philanthropy. So far both videos combined have been viewed more than 1500 times. You can watch the thank you video here, or read this year's final edition of eNews here.

If you would like to share the link through your social media channels, use http://www.alumni.uq.edu.au/alumni-thank-you. Alternatively, to insert an email footer, email Hayley Lees.

The Network – thank you for reading in 2013

This is the final edition of The Network for 2013. Thank you for your support and feedback throughout the year. The Network will be back in February 2014. We hope you have an enjoyable festive season, and we look forward to hearing about your work and achievements in 2014.

Make sure you have finished speaking before your audience has finished listening. – Dorothy Sarnoff

Communication over the Christmas break

With many network staff on leave over the Christmas holidays, the OMC Communications team would be grateful for a run-down on who will remain on deck and who will be on call. Carolyn Varley will be on call for media throughout the holiday period, and will need details of who to contact in faculties, schools and Institutes for specialised inquiries. If you haven't already, could all marcomms managers please send this information to Kate Bishop in OMC.

Options Evening wrap-up

Thank you to all network and faculty staff who contributed to UQ Options Evening 2013.
The event ran from 4–7pm yesterday in the UQ Centre and Abel Smith Lecture Theatre, with more than 1000 people attending (up 34% on last year).

Initial feedback from those who attended indicated that the seminars were very valuable, and provided both inspiration and practical advice on entry to UQ.
