University of Queensland

21 April 2016

New OMC website

OMC is very excited to announce the release of the new website – www.omc.uq.edu.au – and would like to thank those involved in the consultation phase.

The site has been developed to improve usability and to streamline OMC operations. All services offered by OMC have been organised into clear categories, enabling users to quickly find the information they are looking for.

A number of old sites will be redirected, details are below:

The current redirects will not be available indefinitely and we ask the marcoms network to be mindful of this if you have any current links or shortcuts set up through any of the old OMC websites, as they will eventually be removed completely.

If you have any feedback or questions, contact Sara Ledermann on ext. 67685.

Sponsorships at UQ

Sponsoring an event, project or initiative can be a great way to build UQ’s reputation and brand. It can help the University to engage with new audiences, forge partnerships across industries and show support to local and overseas communities.

At UQ, sponsorship involves providing financial or in-kind support to organisations, events and businesses that reflect the University’s strategic goals. It is important to ensure that any sponsorships are treated as a partnership with mutual benefits for both parties. UQ partners with a wide variety of education, research, social, and cultural activities, from sporting teams like the Brisbane Broncos and Queensland Firebirds, to award ceremonies and conferences like the Fulbright Scholarship Dinner and Brisbane Writers Festival.

Each year, UQ receives a number of sponsorship requests. These requests are handled by individual faculties and areas, or by members of the senior executive. To avoid duplication of requests from sponsorship seekers, and to ensure the University does not miss a potential marketing and communications opportunity, OMC maintains a registry of UQ sponsorships. If your faculty or area is entering into a sponsorship agreement, please send a copy of the prospectus to sponsorship@uq.edu.au for inclusion in the registry.

Mastering the Media

The Queensland Brain Institute will host a hands-on media training workshop for academics, sharing information on best practice for communicating research, engaging audiences and an insight into how journalists and newsrooms operate.

The session will be led by QBI Executive Communications Manager Kirsten MacGregor and will include journalists Janelle Miles (The Courier Mail), Shelley Lloyd (ABC Radio) and Lexi Hamilton-Smith (ABC TV). The workshop will cover:

  • How to communicate effectively
  • How to tailor your message to an audience
  • How newsrooms operate
  • Confident interviewing.

The workshop is on Monday 16 May at 10am in the QBI Auditorium. The invite is extended to all UQ communications staff. No bookings are required.

For more information contact Kirsten MacGregor on ext. 66416.
