New Drupal CMS launched

First release of new UQ Drupal system

The UQ Drupal Team announced Release 1 of the UQ Drupal CMS on Monday 31 March. The team is now seeking expressions of interest from organisational units that would like to put forward their site to be one of the first to use the 'Starter Sites' based on the UQ Drupal Release 1. Read about the powerful new features in this release, or visit UQ's Drupal website for more information.

QAAFI science seminar series – case study

What factors do we need to consider to successfully promote a seminar series at UQ? The marketing and communications team at UQ’s Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) were recently set the task of designing and delivering a strategy that would amalgamate an old seminar series and make its shiny new replacement available online. Launched in February 2014, the QAAFI Science Seminar Series has more than achieved its initial targets. Find out more about their approach in this case study.

PhD scholarships – marketing case study

Recruiting more domestic research students has been a topic of much discussion around Australian Universities for a number of years. Recently the Graduate School worked with Professor Melissa Fitzgerald to use social media to target domestic students for 10 PhD scholarships in the area of food science.

While a number of channels were used, paid advertising was targeted at a domestic (Australia/New Zealand) audience via Facebook and LinkedIn. A recent survey by the Graduate School indicates that students take around 3–6 months to decide upon undertaking a research higher degree, so the lead up to this campaign was shorter than desirable.

Overall there were 1236 unique page visits, 106 expressions of interest registered and 60 applications received. A report reviewing the campaign and its outcomes can be viewed here.

Google+ at UQ

Is your UQ department using Google+? As a compulsory platform attached to YouTube, Google+ has become one of the most widely used social networks. The OMC marketing team is interested in how other UQ areas have harnessed this platform to engage with their audiences. We would like to talk to members of The Network about your successes, lessons you have learned, and how Google+ has helped you achieve your social media engagement goals.

To arrange a meeting, contact Keziah Radke by email or on ext. 63165
