Help for dealing with the news media

If you're involved in science at UQ, the Australian Science Media Centre (AusSMC) has a great online resource to help you deal with media enquiries and interviews.

The Science Media Savvy website covers three modules: Dealing with the Media, Using Social Media and Contentious Science.

A series of short videos covers various topics, including how to deal with questions in radio, print and TV interviews, tip sheets, using social media in your working day and a view from the media’s perspective.

Visit the OMC website to get login details for the Contentious Science module, which deals with more difficult media moments.

If you or a staff member in your area are being interviewed, don't forget to let OMC Communications know. They are also ready to help if you need any further advice.

New features for UQ Images

The latest upgrade to UQ Images gives you access to some handy new features:

  • A zoom feature in the Image Details display allows you to click on the image to view a larger version.
  • A change to the updating system means you can now bulk or batch update a set of images from a browse or search results screen.
  • You can now email the “published lightbox” link directly from the database.

If you would like more information or have any questions about UQ Images, please email uqimages@uq.edu.au

We are, as a species, addicted to story. Even when the body goes to sleep, the mind stays up all night, telling itself stories. – Jonathan Gottschall
