The University of Queensland honours its responsibilities both to its own community and the wider community. The Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC) is a major conduit for such interactions, planning and coordinating events and activities.
Key community activities include:
- Themed weeks such as UQ Research Week, UQ Diversity Week, and UQ Teaching and Learning Week promoting UQ's activities in these areas;
- Open days at UQ St Lucia, UQ Ipswich and UQ Gatton as well as at the Moreton Bay Research Station and the Experimental Mine at Indooroopilly;
- More than 100 free public lectures and talks;
- English language teaching, the Institute of Modern Languages (IML), and continuing education;
- Overseas aid ? working through UniQuest's International Projects Division, the University contributes to many development aid projects providing employment and learning for many people in our region;
- Regular interactions with Queensland primary and secondary schools;
- Student assessment based on community projects;
- Generous alumni and other donations and benefactions; and
- Free public access to on-campus concerts, museums and art galleries including exhibitions at the city-based and heritage-listed Customs House.
