For detailed editorial guidelines for University publications, please contact the OMC Deputy Director. However, some general points to remember include:

  • Stories in UQ publications should be informative and/or entertaining but must fall within appropriate defamation legislation and wider UQ policy and associated guidelines. They should also conform to OMC's own Style Guide compiled by the School of Journalism and Communication or alternatively, visit or the Australian Government Style Manual.
  • Stories in UQ publications generally fall into one or more of the following categories: academic and teaching programs; research or general University affairs; community news; and/or promotions.
  • All stories, reports and publications must be consistent with the University's marketing and communications aims and its commercial interests. They must be in keeping with UQ's strong reputation and high standing in the community and must not be potentially offensive to target audiences or capable of bringing the University into disrepute.
