Occupational Health is the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of workers in all occupations by preventing departures from health, controlling risks and the adaptation of work to people, and people to their jobs.  (ILO/WHO 1950) 

The UQ Occupational Health Nurse Adviser assists with the following University wide programs:    

First Aid
Hearing
  • Arrange hearing testing for noise exposed workers and manage follow up after hearing tests (<85db(A)) for workers who have been enrolled in the program by their supervisors.

Health Surveillance
Staff Influenza Vaccination Program
Wellness Programs
  • Involved in wellness programs for staff including the Better Work-Llife Program.
QUIT
  • Arrange QUIT programs, as requested by staff.

  • Some people manage to give up smoking without help. Others may find their own general practitioner helpful, or the Quitline – 131848 or group counselling.

First Aid Program

First aid is the initial care of the ill or injured. The aims of first aid are to prevent dangerous incidents occurring, to preserve life, to stabilise the casualty's condition, to promote recovery and to protect and comfort the ill or injured.

Information for First Aid Officers

The role of the First Aid Officer is to be responsible for first aid facilities in the workplace; to administer first aid to employees where necessary and to maintain records of workplace illness and injury.
