Occupational Health is the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of workers in all occupations by preventing departures from health, controlling risks and the adaptation of work to people, and people to their jobs.

The Occupational Health Nurse Adviser organises University wide programs including:
- First Aid (Links to policy and First Aid Officers)
- Arrange hearing testing for noise exposed workers and manage follow up after hearing tests (<85db(A)) who have been enrolled in the program by their supervisors. (Link to Hearing Conservation Policy and guideline)
- Health Surveillance for workers exposed to Schedule 6 substances (Workplace Health and Safety Regulation, 1997) and for workers in other areas who may be exposed to the risk of developing illness from their work like occupational asthma.
- Organises Staff Influenza Vaccination Program (link to http://www.uq.edu.au/healthservice/staff-vacc.html). Free flu vaccination is offered to full time and part time staff in the first semester of the year.
- Workplace Health and Safety Officer for the University Health Service, Student Support Services and Chaplaincy at St Lucia.
- Manages the UQ Risk Management Database (link) and also organise training for users of the database (link).
- Involved in wellness programs for staff including the Better Worklife Program.
