About

The Oral Health Centre is a University of Queensland (UQ) project that will improve dental services in southeast Queensland by boosting education, research and patient services.

It will involve the construction of a $120 million facility that will house:

  • dental services for public and private patients
  • university teaching facilities
  • research facilities and
  • Queensland Health oral health clinic for special needs dentistry.

The Oral Health Centre was funded by a $104 million grant from the Federal Government's Health and Hospitals Fund, together with $3 million from the Queensland government, and $13 million UQ contribution. When completed in December 2012, it will be Australia’s largest and most advanced oral health facility. Its location, close to the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, will benefit patients and enable health professionals to collaborate more easily on treatments and research.

The OHC will be located on Bramston Terrace, Herston, adjacent to UQ's Mayne Medical School building. The area's heritage and environmental values were key considerations in the building position and design, which has received approval from the Queensland Heritage Council. Lend Lease have been awarded the construction contract.
