Yves Trotter and Yves Fregnac organised a wonderful interdisciplinary meeting in the hills of Provence at the Fondation Treilles (May 25-39, 2002). The participants reflected the two Yves' eclectic view of brain research, with a strong emphasis on multisensory integration of spatial information. I will post some impressions of the science later. In the meantime here is a shot of the beautiful mythical winged creature in the grounds at Fondation Treilles.

Notes: I passed this chimaeric flying animal a couple of times on the first two days, preoccupied with other things but vaguely aware of something odd. In retrospect I think that part of me realised that the head was in different positions on the two days but my left brain would not let that interpretation become explicit.

On the the third day, a gust of wind made the head turn silently in front of me, producing a strong emotional reaction that was a mixture of startle and joy.

It is so beautifully constructed that there is no sound and even a gentle wind can get the head turning.
