The Crew and other Mammals:
Pascal Grinberg built Fernande with Antarctica in mind. The aluminum hull is meticulously insulated inside and did not suffer any of the condensation problems that we saw in some other metal yachts in Antarctica. We were surpised how well it handled pack ice, so long as this was not too thick, although this is a fairly tedious way to travel.
Cecilia was a great cook, serving up something different for every day of the voyage. The midnight party at Port Lockroy shows us consuming a superb cherry cheescake that she cooked in Fernande's gymballed stove for the occasion.

Clockwise from Pascal in the black skivvy at lower right:- Pascal, Cecilia, Jack, Tara, Dave (from FL), Jacques, Ken (FL), Jo (FL), Marie-Jo, Anne, Omar, Carlos. Note the bright skylight at midnight.

View from Fernade's Main Mast Looking Toward Booth Island: Note the shadows of the masts on the pack ice. Tara was worried that her pants "were in the shot", but they turn out to add great colour balance to these fish eye shots that can be founded scattered on different pages.

GerlacheAnne:
Anne had just travelled by yacht from Africa to Argentina, keen to continue the small boat experience in Antarctica. She and Tara both swam with the bergs (see below).

Omar, who discovered sailing boats at the age of nine and has not been able to keep away from them since.  His signature even looks like a sailboat!

The Whole Crew of Fernande: From L to R:- Pascal, Cecilia, Carlos (aft), Omar, Anne, MariJo (Aft, obscured, betterpic below), Tara (forward) Jacques, Jack (in the way!). Sorry it is blurred.  (The steel stay to which he camera was strapped was not very good at getting the focus!)

Swim with gentoos at 65 deg South
We got tired of cracking and pushing through ice South of Lemaire Strait and stopped in a little swimming pool we had made in the pack for some Moet and Chandon to celebrate our Southernmost Point. large flocks of gentoos "enjoyed" the pool too as they ried to navigate under the ice to find pools for a breather.

Humpback whale

Minke Whale: This whale seemed to be curious about Tara's singing on the deck. It surfaced repeatedly, coming closer and closer, in breaks in the pack. It's blow was the first thing that drew our attention to it in the still evening at Port Charcot.
