What is Food Technology and Food Science and Nutrition ?
Food technology, food science and nutrition are concerned with food products from the time of harvesting, though processing, to consumption. Professional people working in these areas aim to optimise food quality; monitor and enhance nutritional status and safety; and improve the way in which we process, preserve, distribute and utilise food to achieve maximum production.
Graduates are involved in product management, quality assurance management, technical sales, consultancy and teaching. Others work in laboratories to research and develop new and better products to meet the quality and nutritional requirements of the consumer.
At The University of Queensland, food and nutrition studies include many science-based courses where students not only learn about the chemistry of food, but also about the biology of its consumers. Other courses cover related areas such as food safety and regulations; the social aspects of food consumption; and marketing.
