One of the challenges we face today is the maintenance of our existing environment, and the repair of damaged systems to a level that can be sustained, while providing sufficient food and fibre to feed and clothe the world's population. Environmental students, faced with these challenges, rely heavily on scientific, technical, economic, social and management information to solve problems.
In these areas of specialisation, all natural and modified systems are studies - from virgin forests and marine ecosystems, to partially modified systems, such as logged natural forests, through heavily modifies agricultural land, to the drastically disturbed systems created by mining and industrial activity.
Programs specialising in environmental science and management place particular emphasis on developing the student's scientific and managerial problem-solving skills to resolve environmental conflict.
