Kelly Matthews is the Student Experience Manager for the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Sciences at the University of Queensland (UQ). Her role focuses on enhancing both the formal (curricular) and informal (co-curricular) learning experiences of undergraduate science students. She played a key role in the development of the new Science Learning Centre at UQ. Currently, she manages the space and is leading a project exploring the impact of social learning spaces on the student experience at UQ.
She is involved in several UQ funded teaching and learning projects including (1) Multidisciplinary Science in the new BSc, (2) Enhancing Student Learning Experiences in Large, First Year Chemistry Courses, and (3) Developing a program for the professional development of tutors within the research-focussed Bachelor of Science Degree Program. Additionally, she has been successful in securing Higher Education Equity Support Program (HEESP) funding and Collaborative Teaching and Learning Innovation projects funding to develop programs that ease the transition into university for students from under-represented backgrounds.
Kelly earned her BA in 2000 and Graduate Certification in Teaching in 2005 from the University of New Orleans. She is currently pursuing a PhD from the University of Queensland, researching the quantitative skills of science students in a new BSc program.
