The University of Queensland’s outstanding research achievements will be celebrated during Research Week 2005 from September 19 to 23.
The event is designed to raise awareness of current UQ research among the university community, the general public, industry, government and the media.
The week culminates with the annual UQ Foundation Research Excellence Awards on Thursday, September 22.
Now in their seventh year, the awards reward and recognise outstanding performance and leadership potential. Funded by the UQ Foundation and the University, the awards are among a range of initiatives created by the University to foster and nurture exciting research projects.
The University of Queensland launched the UQ Foundation Research Excellence Awards in 1999 and was the first tertiary institution in Australia to introduce an annual scheme promoting and rewarding early career researchers. Many have since followed this lead.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor David Siddle said he encouraged students, staff and the wider community to attend Research Week activities and events.
“UQ consistently ranks as one of the top three research-intensive universities in Australia and this week is a highlight in the University calendar,” he said.
“UQ is proud of its record of achievement in research and research-training.
“These achievements can be attributed in large measure to the talent, creativity and dedication of our staff and to the fact that there is a shared vision and shared aspirations among this University’s community.
“UQ Research Week is an opportunity to pay tribute to everyone involved in such an important part of our University.”
A number of schools and institutes, as well as the UQ Graduate School and the Office of Research and Postgraduate Studies, are holding seminars, workshops and other events during Research Week.
The week will also feature a dinner event with industry partners to celebrate UQ’s success in collaborative initiatives with industry.
