Students, staff, community members and furry friends of The University of Queensland are getting ready for the fourth annual Country Campus Challenge on 9 October.

The Mental Health Week event will include a 5km walk or run or a 10km run or cycle around the UQ Gatton Campus, with all proceeds going towards Beyond Blue.

Gary Fitzgerald led the UQ clinical studies dogs team on the 5km walk last year and said it was a great opportunity for all the dogs and students involved.

“We had an overwhelming amount of support from students and volunteers wanting to get the dogs involved in the Country Campus Challenge,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

“We were able to take all our dogs out with one walker per dog. Some of them took their time but we all made it in the end.

“The dogs had such a great time and the volunteers are looking forward to doing it again this year,” he said.

Members of the community are encouraged to take part and can register online at www.uq.edu.au/gatton/challenge.

A $10 entry ($5 for students) includes a sausage sizzle at the end of the race. Race registration opens at 3.30pm on the Hugh Courtney Oval.

People of all levels of fitness are encouraged to attend.

This year’s event is sponsored by UQ Sport and Red Frogs.
