The University of Queensland leads Australia in a nationwide assessment of research impact and engagement released today by the Australian Research Council.
No other institution achieved a set of ratings as comprehensive and outstanding as UQ’s, said Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Bronwyn Harch.
UQ was rated in the top two categories across Engagement and Impact Assessment 2018.
Professor Harch said the excellent results reflected UQ’s commitment to translating its world-class research into impact, and the University’s ongoing success in engaging with industry, community and other partners locally and internationally.
“Fifteen units of assessment at UQ were ranked in the highest category for impact,” Professor Harch said. “This is a fantastic and well-deserved achievement,” she said.
“The results highlight UQ’s long-term and consistent focus on quality research that literally helps create change to build a better world.
“This is a considerable accomplishment and, confirms that UQ research has far reaching and highly significant impacts.
“Today’s result comes on top of the Excellence in Research for Australia outcomes this week, which confirmed that UQ’s research quality is above world standard in more specialist fields of research than any other institution.”
For the Engagement and Impact Assessment, UQ submitted to the ARC 23 Engagement Narratives and 25 Impact Studies, the maximum possible.
In the outcomes released this morning, UQ received ratings of high or medium across 100 per cent of units assessed.
“This is an exceptional result that should be shared and celebrated by all at UQ,” Professor Harch said.
“Our engagement and impact outcomes are testament to our partners in industry, government and the community – without their support and belief in our capability we would not be able to deliver these societal outcomes in collaboration.
“Congratulations to all the researchers, professional staff and students involved in the submission and the years of work underpinning the impacts we are celebrating today.”
