Nine University of Queensland Press (UQP) titles feature in a list of 20 books that will be given to travellers leaving Brisbane’s international airport after the G20.

The give-away booklist was compiled after the Brisbane Airport Corporation asked Queenslanders to suggest books which could be gifted to world leaders and international visitors after the G20 Leaders Summit.

A short-list of must-reads was compiled through a radio and social media campaign.

Of the twenty books on the list, nine titles are from UQP.

UQP CEO Greg Bain praised the short-list initiative as a collaboration between the business and arts sectors which broadened exposure for Queensland’s stable of talented writers and stories of global significance.

“University of Queensland Press is one of the country’s longest-running independent publishing houses, known for producing books of high quality and cultural significance,” Mr Bain said.

“Not only has it launched the careers of many celebrated Australian writers, but our books and authors continue to receive national and international recognition through literary prizes.

“Two recent success stories are Queensland authors Kristina Olsson and Melissa Lucashenko who, between them, have won or been short-listed for eight awards in Australia.

“Publishing the biography Ian Frazer: The man who saved a million lives is another example in which we have been able to celebrate an inspiring Queenslander whose scientific breakthrough has changed the lives of women and their families around the world.”

The short-list of UQP titles includes:

• Johnno and Earth Hour by David Malouf

• The Mayne Inheritance by Rosamond Siemon

• After January by Nick Earls

• Ian Frazer: The Man Who Saved a Million Lives by Madonna King

• Boy, Lost by Kristina Olsson

• Mullumbimby by Melissa Lucashenko

• The Flying Orchestra by Clare McFadden

• Squish Rabbit by Katherine Battersby.
