Brisbane audiences are invited to fall in love with France by attending a special concert at Emmanuel College this weekend.

Brisbane chamber choir Fusion will perform a French-inspired program at the college chapel entitled L’Amour featuring the Mass for Double Choir by 20th century composer Frank Martin.

Fusion musical director Dr Debra Shearer-Dirié, a former staff member within the School of Music, said the piece was among the most popular in choral repertoire.

“It is rich and complex in harmony and structure, and offers the audience a very special listening experience. Those in the ensemble who were also new to the work are quickly discovering the joy of singing this music,” Dr Shearer-Dirié said.

The concert will also include two Renaissance “chansons” and works by Camille Saint-Saëns', Franco-Flemish composer Guillaume Dufay and contemporary North American composers Rupert Lang and Morten Lauridsen.

Fusion was founded in 2009 and comprises singers from a range of backgrounds including several UQ students and alumni.

L’Amour will be held at the Emmanuel College Chapel at 4pm on Sunday, August 21, with tickets available on the door for $25 ($20 for concessions). Discount tickets are also available for UQ students.

Tickets can be booked by contacting (07) 3396 9849 or visiting the Fusion website.
