More than 6400 students will graduate from The University of Queensland (UQ) during this December's graduations.

Among those graduating in UQ's Centenary year is the 9000th UQ PhD recipient, the first Torres Strait Islander to be awarded a UQ PhD, the 45,000th Arts Faculty graduate and the University's largest-ever cohort of medical and engineering graduates.

UQ Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Greenfield congratulated all the graduands and commended their academic achievements.

"Graduation ceremonies are celebrations of success and an opportunity for the University to thank graduates for making UQ their university," Professor Greenfield said.

"It is also a time to marvel at the potential of new graduates, and at their capacity to lead and make a positive impact in their communities and - in many cases - internationally."

Eighteen graduation ceremonies will be held between December 10 and 18. Fifteen ceremonies will be held at UQ's St Lucia campus, two at the Ipswich Civic Centre and one at UQ's Gatton campus.

This December's graduands will join a network of 190,000 UQ alumni, living and working in more than 150 countries.
