A University of Queensland student is making her dreams a reality, conducting the Indooroopilly Chamber Orchestra at their end of year concert later this month.

Currently undertaking her PhD in wetlands and wastewater treatment, Carolina Casaril will conduct the concert at Customs House on November 22.

Juggling her studies with her work at the Queensland Department of Environment and Resource Management, Ms Casaril has extended her passion for music by taking on the role of the orchestra's chief conductor.

"I initially became a conductor to conduct ballet music, this is my dream," Ms Casaril said.

A singer with The Lucian Singers and the Church of Christ St Lucia, Ms Casaril appreciates the value of community orchestras.

"The Indooroopilly Chamber Orchestra is made up of people from the community, who enjoy playing classical and contemporary music, for the community," she said.

"We held a charity concert earlier this year to raise money for victims of the Victorian bush fires and North Queensland floods, however this concert is set to surpass the last and engages a local young soloist."

The concert will feature 16-year-old violin soloist Nicholas Kaye-Smith, who participated in the UQ Chamber Music Program earlier this year.

Mr Kaye-Smith is also a student of retired UQ School of Music senior lecturer and violinist Spiros Rantos.

The program includes Haydn's Sinfona No. 92, and Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major.

"This is our last performance for the year, and it will set the scene for next year's program, which includes another benefit concert and two larger concerts, as well as several other community commitments," Ms Casaril said.

The concert will run from 1.30pm on Sunday, 22 November at Customs House. Tickets are free for primary school students, $10 for students and $20 for adults, and can be purchased at the door.
