A student from The University of Queensland has made the Top 10 in New Zealand’s answer to the Best Job in the World promotion.

One of only two Aussies in the finals, 20-year-old Nicquel Rhoden from UQ's School of Tourism is in the running to win a three-month stay in New Zealand, promoting the best the country had to offer.

But to make it to the final three, she needs to secure more followers on her blog than any of the other finalists.

"A Pom won our competition, so why shouldn’t an Australian win the Entirely Kiwi World Famous competition?" Ms Rhoden said.

No stranger to being an ambassador, Ms Rhoden, a Gold Coast native, last week helped launch the School’s Tourism Regional Internship Program (TRIP).

As part of this year’s TRIP program, launched by Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor last Tuesday, students will work for 10 days with tourism organisations in the Ipswich and Scenic Rim regions on real destination challenges.

"The World Famous promotion is a lot like TRIP – it’s an experience you can’t buy," she said.

"It’s a great experience – not only to meet new people, but for my career as well. I’m the perfect person for the job because I have a genuine interest in toursim."

Joining Ms Rhoden in the final 10 for the competition are one New Zealander, four Americans, a German and a Canadian.

The Top 10 will be short-listed to three on Tuesday, based on the number of followers each of the candidates has on their blog.
