There are no prescribed working hours for
academic staff, including
academic research staff, or for
general and
research staff classified at
HEW levels 8 and above.
Full-time general and research staff classified at HEW levels 1-7 are employed for 36¼ hours per week. These hours must be worked within the span of hours prescribed by
The University of Queensland General Staff Award 2003.
The standard working day is 7 ¼ hours plus a 45-minute unpaid lunch break, with two paid morning and afternoon breaks.
Subject to the agreement of the Head of the organisational unit, permanent general staff covered by the Award may work standard hours,
flexible working hours, or voluntary banked time.
Overtime
General staff members cannot work overtime unless instructed by their supervisor in advance. Staff instructed to work outside, or in excess of, ordinary working hours are deemed to be working overtime and should be paid at overtime rates, or may request time off in lieu at the same rate as overtime payment, according to their award conditions.
In limited circumstances, there may be an entitlement to overtime for general and research staff classified at HEW levels 8 and above.
Policies
The following policies on working hours and overtime are fully documented in the
