Interactive Outreach Presentations

Through outreach activities we bring live science and high-end technology to classes using the World Wide Web. Sessions are recorded and Powerpoint presentations available so teachers can use these off-line at any time, whether they choose to take part in live broadcasts or not. We have chosen the scanning electron microscope as the most suitable vehicle for these sessions. Cameras take images from the machine and the room so that school classes can see the researchers as well as what they are doing and viewing. An audio link means classes can hear what is said, including discussions within the laboratory. Students can ask questions via typed input.

We have provided links on the right to sessions previously recorded on topics such as how bees aid in pollination of plants through specific structural features, the forensics of fibres, and a trip through identifying a mystery fibre, as well as an investigation of ancient coins. Background material on the science is presented as a Powerpoint presentation and each video session is backed by a powerpoit presentation with high quality images.

If you wish to use resources they can be downloaded. if you want to take part in a live session these run during National Science Week and at other times as arranged. Notification of the next dates will be on this web page.
