Transmission Electron Microscope

This Philips Technai 120kV electron microscope was installed at the CMM in April 2000. It is a general purpose microscope configured for high contrast with the BioTWIN lens configuration, but together with the ultra-clean high vacuum for contamination free observation and the Compustage for accurate specimen control the Technai 12 also fits the need for cryo-observation. Another key component to the success of low temperature observation is the installation of a specific cryo-trap effective for the preventing vapour deposition on cryo holders and their specimens while in the column.

To facilitate digital capture a CCD camera was integrated above the microscope camera, this CCD camera together with image acquisition software offers the user a wide choice for image manipulation and analysis.

The Technai 12 user interface is comprehensive and provides the multi-user facility the capability to offer each user their individual microscope profile and data storage. The Technai series supports a number of innovative features in the area of the specimen stage, vacuum and imaging systems which we look forward to using in facilitating our investigations.
