 Up front payment (Student contribution)

Australian citizens and holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visas can select the up front payment option and receive a 10% discount.

Note that New Zealand citizens and Australian permanent residents without a humanitarian visa cannot defer their contribution through tax, but must pay up front, without the 10% discount.  Partial up front payment is considered to be a deferred payment option.

To choose the up front payment option:

  1. 1. Log on to your mySI-net home page, and under your ‘Financial’ link, select the up front payment option on your Request for Commonwealth Support and HECS-HELP form.

  2. You should provide your Tax File Number (TFN), because if you are unable to pay your up front HECS-HELP contribution by the census date, your contribution will automatically be deferred through tax instead of your enrolment being cancelled.

  3. You can view your estimated liability on mySI-net. Allow one working day for any changes to be re-calculated if you change your enrolment or payment option.

  4. If you subsequently change your program (for example, from a Bachelor of Arts to a dual Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education), you must immediately submit a new Request for Commonwealth Support and HECS-HELP form to record your payment option for the new program, or your enrolment will be cancelled.

  5. Online invoices will be available for viewing on mySI-net from mid-January for first semester, mid-June for second semester, or early November for Summer semester.

  6. Payment must be made by the census date (see below). Please visit the How to pay page for methods of payment

  7. Shortly after the census date for each semester or teaching period, you will be advised via your UQ email address that your electronic Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN) is available for viewing on mySI-net. It lists your enrolled program and courses, your student learning entitlement usage and the calculation of your liability.
