 Supplementary examinations

  • If you fail a course (generally with a grade of three), you may be permitted a "second chance" to pass the course by being granted a supplementary examination.

  • Supplementary examinations will be granted only where the General Award Rules and your Program Rules allow. Official rules can be found under the Information for current students or Program requirements links for each program on the Programs and courses website. Please check the rules for your program and with your faculty or school to determine eligibility.

  • Generally you will be required to make a formal application for a supplementary examination.

  •  Online applications can be submitted and progress tracked via mySI-net:

    1. Sign In to mySI-net
    2. Navigate to: myPage > Courses > Supplementary Exams
    3. Select the ‘Request’ checkbox for the course you want to submit a Supplementary Exam Application
    4. Click the ‘Next Step’ button to continue
    5. Read and accept the ‘General Award Rules 1A, Division 3’ relating to Supplementary Exams. (You will find a link to the General Award Rules on the University Rules page. Once you have accessed that page, scroll down to Part 1A - Assessment)
    6. Click the ‘Submit’ button
    7. You can view your application status by clicking the link under the ‘Decision’ column for the relevant course
