 Placement courses

More Information
Insurance cover for students undertaking course placements and work experience
  • A placement course – also called work placement, internship, industry study, clinical practice, practicum, fieldwork, clinical placement, practical work, teaching practice or industry experience – is a course requiring students to undertake a period of practical, work-related experience, usually at an organisation external to the University. A placement course is generally designed to enable students to practise the skills of the profession in a real-life setting.
  • The University has established procedures for the design and administration of placement courses. The UQ policy on Placement Courses is set out in full in the Handbook of University Policies and Procedures (Policy Number: 3.40.5)
  • Under the Commissioner for Children and Young People Act 2000 (PDF - requires Adobe Acrobat to download), students on placement whose work involves children (that is, persons aged under 18 years) will be required to consent to their placement agency applying to the Commissioner for Children and Young People for a "working with children check", which is an investigation into whether a person has a criminal history.
  • The University provides student personal accident insurance and public liability insurance cover to enrolled students undertaking work experience or placements that are a requirement of their program
  • Please visit the entry for your program on the Programs and Courses website to see if your program has placement course requirements.
  • If you have any questions about your placement, please contact your faculty or school.
