The University provides student personal accident, public liability, and travel insurance cover to enrolled students undertaking course placements that are a requirement of their program. In addition the University may cover enrolled students who wish to do work experience in their related field, but where it is not a course requirement.

If a student wishes to have coverage for work experience they are to consult with their School administration as University approval is required before commencement, and an agreement may be required between the University and the external provider. Information regarding the policy can be found in Section 8.1 of the Financial Management Practice Manual.

The cover provided under the University’s public liability policy is subject to the following conditions:

• The student is not employed by the work experience or placement provider and the student does not receive remuneration for their participation in the program
  
• The work experience or placement must be a course requirement and participation in the program must be sanctioned by the University.

Medical benefits available under the travel policy do not apply if the student is returning to their country of residence for the course placement or work experience.

If a student is involved in any incident that may lead to a claim while undertaking work experience, they must notify their School administration as soon as possible, who in turn will advise the Insurance Office.

The University does not provide cover to students engaged in sporting or other activities that are not part of a student's program. If a student is seriously injured, the University Security Section should be contacted in addition to the emergency services such as the Queensland Ambulance Service. The Queensland Ambulance contact number is 000.

If a student is injured on campus or while engaged in University activities, an Occupational Health and Safety Unit Injury, Illness and Incident Report must be completed.
