 Alternative examination locations

In some circumstances, as an internal student, you may apply for approval to sit University exams off-campus if you are unable to attend a UQ campus during the examination period. Approval is restricted to substantial grounds such as urgent work or study commitments, or for compassionate reasons preventing you from attending your examination on-campus. However, during the special/supplementary exam period in December each year, approval is granted routinely to students who reside or work away from a UQ campus and wish to write their exams where they are located. An application to sit an exam outside of the Brisbane region for this exam period must be lodged at the same time as the submission of your special/supplementary exam application.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the close proximity to the commencement of second semester, no external examination applications will be granted for first semester special/supplementary examinations held in July. You are expected to be available to sit examinations held in this period at your home campus

UQ has a large network of examination centres available for this purpose throughout Australia and overseas, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. Where the University has no existing arrangement for an examination venue and/or supervision, you may be asked to nominate a local examination venue and/or supervisor, the use of which will be subject to University approval.

Applications must be submitted by the date specified on the application form. This will sometimes mean your application is required prior to a specific examination date being finalised:

  • for examinations elsewhere in Australia applications must be submitted 21 days before the commencement of the examination period
  • for examinations at overseas locations applications must be submitted 28 days before the commencement of the examination period
  • for external examinations for special/supplementary examinations during December – this form must be submitted with the special/supplementary examination application form

Only in the most exceptional of circumstances may late applications be considered provided the necessary arrangements can be made in the available time.

Application forms must be submitted together with the application fee.

Examination fees apply in accordance with the information supplied in Section 6 of the form. Enquiries can be directed to telephone (07) 3365 2488 or email examinations@uq.edu.au.
