| Non-approved features of calculators | |
Approved non-programmable calculators may be required for student use in some examinations.
Please note the following:
- With the exception of the Casio fx-82 series, all calculators must have an official "Approved" label attached.
- If you do not have:
- a Casio fx-82 calculator, or
- a calculator previously labelled as approved
- If your calculator is listed on the Approved calculators list (pdf), please present your calculator, together with your UQ student card at a Student Centre to have the compulsory label affixed
- If your calculator is not listed, please check the Non Approved calculators list (pdf). If your calculator is on the Non-approved calculator list, you must use a different calculator, preferably from the Casio fx-82 series, or from the Approved calculators list (pdf)
- If your calculator does not appear on the Non Approved calculator list, check both the allowable and non-allowable features list.
- If your calculator has any of the non-allowable features, you must use a different calculator. You are encouraged to use the online form, so that your calculator can be added to the Non-Approved calculator list.
- If your calculator complies with the allowable features, you must make an application to have your calculator assessed as an allowable model. Please provide as much information as possible about your calculator including links to calculator documentation hosted on official websites (e.g. manufacturer or reputable retailer websites).
- If we are unable to verify the information online, we will ask you to make an appointment so that your calculator can be evaluated for addition to the approved list. You must bring your calculator and documentation (e.g. user manual) to such an appointment.
- You will be notified via an email to your student email address of the outcome of your request.
- Once you have been notified that your calculator is approved, you must present it, together with your UQ student card to a Student Centre to have the compulsory label affixed.
Please note the following:
- You will not be permitted to enter an examination with an unlabelled calculator where an approved calculator is required, unless it is one in the Casio fx-82 range
- Instruction manuals and other calculator documentation are not permitted in examination rooms (unless the examination is open-book). Students should be familiar with the operation of any calculator they plan to use in an examination.
- The labels are tamper-evident, and cannot be removed without being destroyed. Any mis-use of labels will be considered misconduct
- You may make separate application for more than one calculator
- In order to guarantee consideration for end of semester exams, application to have calculators considered for approval must be made
- by May 15 for Semester 1
- by October 15 for Semester 2
