The following legend applies to the codes used in the course descriptions in mySI-net.
Units
#: This symbol is used to represent the unit value of a course. The University rates courses in terms of units, chosen to represent the effort expected of a student, including both contact and private study time. The relationship between contact hours and units varies between courses.
Contact hours
(2L2P): The number and type of class contact hours each week are represented by a combination of letters and figures within brackets. Thus (2L2P) means a requirement of 2 hours of lectures and 2 hours practical work each week.
The codes used here are —
L lecture;
P practical or laboratory;
T tutorial;
S seminar;
N clinical hours;
F field work; and
C class contact, which may take any of the above forms.
D indicates that contact hours are listed for the duration of the course.
<: beside the contact figure, indicates that weekly contact hours are fractionally less than the given whole number.
~: beside the contact figure, indicates that the given weekly contact hours are approximate.
