How to calculate your GPA

Your Grade Point Average or GPA is calculated using the following formula:

GPA = ΣGU/ΣU

where
G = the result in a course
U = the unit value of that course
Σ = the sum of

For example; if you have results of 4, 5, 5, and 7 in courses with unit values of 2, 2, 1 and 1 respectively, your GPA would be calculated thus:

(4x2) + (5x2) + (5x1) + (7x1)
     2 + 2 + 1 + 1

= 30÷6 = 5.0

If a student is enrolled in a course but gets no result, G = 0.

The General Award Rules (Part 1A Assessment, Division 5 (Results) Section 1A.19: Calculation of grades) explain how to calculate a GPA in a pass/fail course where grades of P or N are used.  You will find a link to the General Award Rules on the University Rules page.
