Following a pilot study conducted by the researchers Associate Professor Elizabeth Mackinlay and UQ Music Associate Professor Felicity Baker, first time mothers are being invited to participate in a six week trial to test the effectiveness of a new DVD that demonstrates techniques for successful lullaby singing with new babies.

The purpose of the Sing, Soothe and Sleep project is to show mothers ways to use music with their babies to better cope with the first weeks of motherhood. Outcomes including a reduction of stress, better mother-infant attachment and improved baby sleeping are anticipated.

For the study, the researchers are seeking first time mothers of babies six weeks of age and older to participate in a six week trial. The trial will have two phases of three weeks and participants will be asked to complete a diary and participate in two telephone interviews with the project researchers.

Participation in the study is voluntary and participants are free to withdraw from the study at any time.

Those interested in participating in this project can read more in the project information sheet [http://www.uq.edu.au/music/content/spotlight/Sing-soothe-and-sleep-information.pdf] and can participate in the study by contacting Nancy Westerman at email singingmums@uq.edu.au or by phoning: 0457 146 552.
