Mirror Images: Creative Collaboration in Duo Pianism

Thursday 28 June, 1:00 - 2:30pm

Nickson Room,

UQ School of Music

Zelman Cowen Building (51)

St Lucia Campus (Map)

In this lecture-recital duo pianists Liam Viney and Anna Grinberg discuss and demonstrate the particularly binary and complementary nature of collaboration in two-piano performance.

A sense of unity tempered by diversity, intense equality, and a focused form of improvisation characterizes not only the nature of performance in this genre, but is also composed into the very fabric of most two-piano music. The event will include live illustrations of creative collaboration through performances of the music of Kurtag, Lutoslawski, Schumann, Boulez, and John Adams' "Hallelujah Junction". The performances will feature two 9-foot Steinway Grand Pianos, showcasing UQ's superb new instrument recently delivered from Hamburg..
