Practice Rooms

The School has eight practice rooms available for student use on a roster system on weekdays between 8am and 8pm. Each BMus student is limited to two hours' booking of a practice room per day. Other University of Queensland students undertaking MUSC-coded Techniques courses have access to practice rooms for one hour daily for work associated with the techniques courses in which they are enrolled. Details of use of practice rooms are posted on the practice room doors. Students are also allowed to practise in seminar and lecture rooms (excepting the Nickson Room) when they are not otherwise in use. Rooms must be left in good order after use. Where equipment is removed from any room it should be returned to its original place after use.

The Nickson Room and the concert Steinway grand pianos housed in it are not to be used as general practice facilities. However, approval to reserve practice time may be given to students rehearsing for forthcoming concerts, competitions or practical examinations. Students wishing to reserve a booking for the Nickson Room should apply to the Music Office.

Lockers

Lockers are available and are allocated to students whose Practical Study is an orchestral instrument. A key deposit of $20 is required and the key should be returned at the end of second semester if the student is not enrolling on the same instrument the following year or is leaving the program. All locker enquiries are handled by the Administrative Assistants in the School of Music Office.
