BMus (Hons), PhD Wellington, LTCL
Senior Lecturer in Musicology. Dr. Owens holds a BMus (Hons) and a PhD from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand (for a thesis entitled “The Württemberg Hofkapelle, c. 1680–1721”). She lectures in music history, historical performance practice and musicological research methodology, and is also a baroque oboist. Her research interests are focused on European “art” music of the early modern period, in particular seventeenth-century German Singballett, early eighteenth-century German court music, and the music of Johann Sigismund Cousser (Kusser). Dr. Owens has held visiting fellowships at the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel (Germany) and at Clare Hall, University of Cambridge. She has been awarded a Humboldt Fellowship for her work on Cousser, and was hosted by the Institut für Musik at the Martin-Luther Universität Halle-Wittenberg in 2009–2010.
