Stable Isotope Analysis for determining diet of Green Turtles
(Supervisors: Booth, Lanyon, Limpus (EPA))
This project will involve using stable isotope analysis to investigate seasonal, ontogenetic and regional differences in the diet of green turtles, Chelonia mydas, along the south-east Queensland coast. Isotopic signatures of skin and blood samples will be used to compare the diets of green turtles from Hervey, Shoalwater and Moreton Bays. These results will be calibrated against isotopic signatures of captive turtles and used to determine the relative contributions of marine plants (particularly algae, seagrasses and mangroves) and animal material to the diet of green turtles at different life-history stages and geographical locations. |
