Research Project

The effect of water temperature on the digestive physiology of juvenile green turtles (Chelonia mydas) in a temperate feeding ground, Moreton Bay, Australia
(Supervisors: Lanyon & Limpus)

This project investigates the role temperature plays in the digestive efficiency of the green sea turtle by measuring food intake, digestibility and assimilation of nutrients, and digesta retention times under different temperature regimes. These baseline data will be used in further studies examining the effects of feeding ground, water temperature and latitude on feeding efficiency, growth, maturation and breeding success of sea turtles.
