Welcome to the School of Land, Crop and Food Sciences (LCAFS) in the Faculty of Natural Resources, Agriculture and Veterinary Science (NRAVS). We have teaching and research facilities at Gatton and St Lucia, but also undertake research and outreach activities at various sites in other parts of Australia and overseas, particularly in tropical and sub-tropical regions.
Our School offers internal and external courses in a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. In 2009, the School is offering four-year programs in Agricultural Science, Environmental Science and Food Technology, three-year Applied Science programs in Plants, Animal and Plant Biosecurity, and Food Science and Nutrition, and a two-year Associate Degree in Applied Science in Plant Studies. Some of these programs are run in conjunction with other Faculties, e.g. Science, Health Science, and Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology. We also teach into postgraduate course-work programs and supervise higher-degree research students across the disciplinary areas of agricultural, environmental and food sciences.
The programs are designed to meet an increasing need for understanding and application of modern science and technology to traditional farming practice and food management systems. By accepting a place in one of our programs, you have set yourself a challenge to develop new and sustainable systems involving agriculture, environmental and food sciences to meet the future needs of the world for food and fibre production. We hope that you will find our programs stimulating and that you will gain a life-long thirst for learning as a result of your experience in the School.
You are encouraged to meet our staff to discuss your needs and career aspirations. I wish you every success in your studies and look forward to meeting you at some stage.
