Welcome to UQI Update, a weekly bulletin for staff of the Ipswich Campus.
NEW ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN FOR IPSWICH CAMPUS
Please find attached for your information the series of advertisements that form part of the new advertising campaign for the Ipswich campus. As the campaign will initially be launched within the Ipswich region, the advertisements feature a combination of graduates who are working within the Ipswich region and others external to the region, to highlight that our graduates are impacting the local community and beyond.
The purpose of the campaign is threefold; firstly to educate the market (both school leavers, mature-aged and the influencers) about the successes our graduates are achieving and the impact they are having on the local community and beyond; secondly to strengthen our ties with industry and employers; and thirdly, to promote the careers our graduates can achieve in response to the many surveys which have been undertaken of our target markets which indicate most students attend university ultimately to gain a career.
The advertisements and supporting testimonials will also be loaded onto the Ipswich homepage within the coming weeks, and will be profiled in Campus publications, media, etc. We will also use every opportunity to utilise the Made in Ipswich statement within Campus marketing this year. The campaign will be evaluated at the end of the year and, if successful, it is intended a new series of advertisements will be created next year featuring graduates from other programs at the Ipswich Campus, in order to ensure our promotion is equitable across programs.

CAMPUS SET TO BE A CENTRE OF ACTIVITY
The Ipswich community’s use of facilities at The University of Queensland Ipswich Campus has been enhanced with last week’s official opening of the Ipswich Activity Centre. The Centre, which will play an important role in the University’s commitment to community engagement, is designed to provide a place for public activities and events on a small scale, and a facility for multi-faith activities. See http://www.uq.edu.au/ipswich/index.html?page=58822&pid=24293
MAKE A DIFFERENCE – BECOME A DISCRIMINATION & HARASSMENT CONTACT OFFICER
Do you have what it takes? – a commitment to fairness, a desire to assist people resolve conflict, an interest in supporting the elimination of discrimination and harassment, capacity to deal with confidential, often complex interpersonal matters and to be objective. The work of a Discrimination & Harassment Contact Officer (DHCO) is extremely important in assisting the University to meet its obligation to provide an environment free of discrimination and harassment. More trained people are needed in a number of organisational units.
The training for new DHCO’s has been extended to two full days, to cover the somewhat expanded role. This will include taking a more proactive educative role in the workplace – and the expanded role will assist The Equity Office in our quest to have the DHCO role recognised as community service within the academic portfolio.
The next DHCO training will be held on March 29 – 30. Register via the TEDI Staff Development website on http://www.tedi.uq.edu.au/sdh/index.asp?ProgramType=PE35EQ&Program=EDACOT&Course=UEDDHC
